General Info

Tucked into the lively streets of Jingumae, Masaya Shokudou Restaurant feels like one of those places you stumble into once and then keep coming back to. Located at 1 Chome-9-12 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0001, Japan, this izakaya restaurant blends everyday comfort with the relaxed buzz of a neighborhood diner. It’s casual without trying too hard, and that’s exactly where its charm lives.

The menu focuses on hearty Japanese set meals that hit the spot whether you’re stopping by for lunch or settling in for a laid-back dine-in experience. One of the standout favorites is the 大判チキンカツ定食, featuring a generously sized chicken cutlet that’s crispy on the outside and tender inside. It arrives neatly plated, balanced with rice and sides that make the whole meal feel complete rather than rushed. Another crowd-pleaser is the 鳥の唐揚げ定食, where juicy fried chicken delivers bold flavor without being greasy.

If you’re craving something richer, the 牛スタミナ定食 brings a satisfying depth with savory beef that feels made for refueling after a long day. The 生姜焼き定食 is equally comforting, with ginger-infused pork that’s aromatic and familiar in the best way. Pair any of these with a cold 生ビール, and the experience instantly feels more like unwinding than simply eating.

Masaya Shokudou Restaurant keeps things welcoming and practical. The space offers dine-in seating along with outdoor seating, which is especially enjoyable when the neighborhood energy is buzzing. The entrance is wheelchair-accessible, making it easier for everyone to drop in without stress. The atmosphere stays relaxed and casual, so whether you’re solo, with friends, or just grabbing a quiet lunch, it never feels out of place.

Among local reviews, the restaurant is often appreciated for consistency. Portions feel honest, the menu is straightforward, and the location makes it an easy stop while exploring Shibuya. Masaya Shokudou Restaurant doesn’t chase trends-it focuses on doing classic izakaya-style meals well, and that confidence shows in every plate that comes out of the kitchen.

What customers say?

“ Very vibrant restaurant. Many office workers were there for drinks and food after office hours. They were considerate enough to arrange for us to sit outdoors away from the other customers who smoke. Since it is an Izakaya restaurant, patrons can smoke indoors. The food was ok but a little too salty. The portion was big, 2 pieces of fried Pork and Chicken cutlets, fried to perfection. Oh, there was an extra charge of ¥165 per person on top of the cost for food and drinks. This could probably be for the service charge. They have menus in English. Probably it is located in a tourist zone. A menu in English will come in handy to attract more tourists, although we were the only tourists there then. Overall, it was a good experience. ”

“ Found this place on Google Maps, as my family of 6 (including me) wanted to get away from the Harajuku crowds during lunch time—I appreciate that they were able to accommodate our bigger party! Not too long of a wait and they served decent Japanese teishoku meals like chicken katsu, katsu curry, karaage, udon, seafood, and various sashimi plates that came with miso soup and rice. Their prices were also pretty decent too for the area. ”

“ I really liked the casual vibe in this place and despite what the negative reviews here say, I found it a cool place where locals, expats and tourist alike were sitting together. food was right for the price and drinks are cheap. They advertise clearly on the door that you must order food with drinks which is fair. Not a tourist trap at all. ”

“ Stumbled across this restaurant on the way to Harajuku. The staff were friendly even though we couldn't speak Japanese. The food was yummy but we were getting food envy at the tables around us who had other dishes. ”

- Ronda Duong -

“ Amazing place with amazing stuff! Overall the food was delicious, we ordered tuna sashimi and it was melting in the mouth, very fresh! Also we ordered shrimp tempura set which was also delicious, the curry udon was amazing but the chicken was chewy and not so good quality! ”

- Maysam AlKoubaisy -

“ Stumbled upon this place while trying to get away from the hectic Harajuku tourist area. Decent traditional Japanese food. Maybe be more pricier than other similar prices but it's expected for being where it is. The yakiniku set cost around 1150 yen including tax. ”

“ Found this using Google Maps and this is one of the best value food that I experienced in Tokyo for these few days. Totally worth it for the price, food quality and food portions. Note: Cash only ”

“ Arrived 12:30 for lunch. Lined up for about 15 min. Has non-smoking and smoking sections. Menu in Japanese and English. Had pork cutlet. Portion very generous. Very delicious. Highly recommended. ”
